Session 18: "They're Coming!" (9 Flamerule, DR 1372)

We begin the session mid battle, Rio misses with his crossbow while Rania’s bolt hits home at the orc, Graal. Meanwhile hot in pursuit, Artus encounters a second person (posing as Marin) who shapeshifts in front of his eyes, revealing himself to be the scrappy youth the group all first encountered on the road. Meanwhile, Gaerfinas unleashes sacred flame knocking Graal into the water.

Stopped in his tracks by the shapeshifter, Artus breaks off his pursuit of the monster which escapes, he returns to the group. By this time the goblins have formed up and begin attacking with their javelins. Kellan moves to restrain Graal with a spell, allowing Kelnor to use the immovable rods to further hold him, the shapeshifter makes himself known to the rest of the group, jumping down from the tunnel, he is keen to leave but with no obvious escape the group must prepare for an assault.

Kelnor disarms Graal and attempts to slit his throat, leaving Graal lifeless on the ground, while he talked his belongings. Rio discovered more tunnels are being created and the group decide to leave via the newly created tunnel. The group split with Gaerfinas going through the flooded passage. The group move through the passage and at the fork take the right passage. Kellan uses the healing wand on Kelnor but discovered that it is empty. In frustration Kelnor shoves Kellan shocking him into submission. Gaerfinas emerges form the water and sees the tunnel cut into the wall, peering in he sees nothing for now. Rania at the lean hears a rumbling and alerts the group trying to flee backwards when the creature bursts into the tunnel. The group attacks Gaerfinas strikes with sacred flame, crossbow bolts fly wild in the dusty tunnel, Artus lands his great sword drawing the anger of the creature who lashes out but misses after being wounded, Rio emboldened by this joins in but misses, fortunately kelnor and Gaerfinas finish off the beast before it can take its vengeance. The fight is over and Kelnor decides to take the body in the portable hole and move back down the tunnel. On exiting the tunnel the group emerges into a sleeping quarters with no sign of further danger. The group agree to follow Twelve to the exit where he arrived from.

Twelve reveals that they had a map of the complex revealing the entrances and the group exit through a hidden door. Twelve tells the group where the camp with horses are and Gaefinas suggests Twelve takes the form of Graal before heading to the horses. When they reach the horses, one guard is present, Twelve speaks to him as Graal and he does not seem suspicious; however, he soon spots the group, drawing his sword as Gaerfinas rushes towards him. Rio commands the horse hand to put down his sword and he complies, gaefinas ties him up while Rania rounds up the horses. They mount up and head back to lord morn.
